Great Debate Class Throws out the Hype

Class forum designed as official debate, offers real-time, open solutions in lighting

May 19, 2010 – Funny how controversy draws a crowd; recent Miss America Pageant and the racy photos, LeBron James staying or going in Cleveland, Simon leaving American Idol, all subjects worth a debate. It isn’t celebrity news but the Venture Lighting Institute always draws a crowd to debate the most recent lighting trends in lighting design competing against the company’s niche technology, pulse start metal halide.

So the debate is on at the VLI on June 30, 2010 during the one-day class from 8AM – 4PM. The class, offered three times prior, has a new class schedule. Adding to the day’s activities of real-time lighting design and solution analysis is LEED Life Cost Analysis, Life Cycle Costs and sustainable market trends for LED, fluorescent and metal halide.

Many experts argue that with the newest trends in fluorescent and especially LED that metal halide seems to be a dying system in the markets where this technology used to be the only solution. There is always a place for an old dog some would say, and companies like Venture and Philips are making technical advancements in metal halide that offer great benefits such as longer life, improved efficacy, excellent lamp lumen depreciation and dimming.

It is time for lighting experts to understand the best applications for these competing systems. All three of the systems offer benefits like energy savings, and on the flip side cons like cost but in the Great Debate class, all of it is reviewed, designed and discussed so that the students can put it to the test in their own projects after the class.

The debate class allows evaluations factually without the marketing fluff so architects, engineers and industry professionals can provide the best solutions for clients that benefit the biggest issues facing us today such as energy, environment and finances.
