Venture Lighting Institute to host National IESNA Webcast
The Effects of Light on Human Health and Behavior topic of webcastSTREETSBORO, OH (February 11, 2009) – As part of the continuing effort to provide educational opportunities to the lighting community, the Venture Lighting Institute (VLI) is hosting the IES Cleveland Chapter and local lighting professionals for the viewing of the National IESNA webcast “The Effects of Light on Human Health and Behavior” on March 11, 2009 from 6PM-9M.
The viewing held at the VLI facility in Streetsboro, OH is offered by the IESNA and instructed by George C. Brainard, Ph.D., Professor of Neurology, Pharmacology. Dr. Brainard is the acting Director of the Light Research Program, Jefferson Medical College.
The webcast will cover the research on non-visual effects of light in the practice of lighting. Recent discoveries indicate that the non-visual effects of light are mediated by a newly discovered photoreceptor in the eye that is distinct from the classical rods and cones for vision. These findings, presented in the webcast, will provide its participants with useful information on:
- How light regulates hormones, rhythms, and behavior in humans
- How this research is leading to the development of new architectural lighting strategies
- How light can be used to treat clinical and non-clinical problems
The event includes hors d’oeuvre and drink hour from 6-7PM with the webcast beginning at 7PM until 8:30. Parking is free at the VLI facility and located conveniently between the Akron and Cleveland communities. Professionals looking for education credits will benefit from the viewing and be rewarded 1.5 CEU’s. The VLI is hosting this event for free.
